Trying new things

Posted in Yoga at 5:55 pm · Digg! this story! Digg! this story.

So I feel like my life lacks adventure at times. Today I decided to throw my nightly routine to the wind and check out a free yoga class. This is something that I have been meaning to try for what seems like forever. What has kept me from doing it until now? Perhaps the fear of trying something new or the possibility of looking silly in strange poses. Whatever it was, I have gotten over the hump that had been holding me back. In doing so, I have found something else that I believe I will come to love and opened a new door to making friends.

Glad you had a good session at yoga. I’ll admit, yoga has never really sparked my passion for fitness. But my friend Robin aka Garden Mentor is always trying to convince me to come to her yoga class as she really loves yoga and thinks I will like it if I find a good class. :)

I’m glad you gave it a shot. Taking yourself less seriously and “letting go” is a huge part of enjoying yoga. Unlike other “sports” yoga isn’t about competing — with yourself or with anyone else in the room. Sure, you want to push yourself, but finding an edge, letting go, and releasing into poses is really how you move forward in your yoga practice. Anyway, I encourage you (and Brad!) to continue with it. And, seriously, nobody looks silly in yoga poses. Being able to achieve some of the more complex poses just speaks to your physical strength and flexibility. Many athletes are so muscle-bound that they have difficulty achieving some of the more “twisty-bindy-upside-downy” poses. But, with practice and letting go, most yoga is achievable by all. Anyway, keep it up!
